A main coast road in Lincolnshire has been closed for emergency repairs.

The A1031 in Saltfleetby was shut earlier this week after cracks appeared in the road following recent dry weather.

Jonathan Evans, of Lincolnshire County Council's highways team, said the cracks stretched for nearly 100m (about 325ft) and were up to 50mm (2in) wide.

A diversion is in place via the A16 around Louth and the B1200 through Manby.

Mr Evans said there was a similar issue for more than a quarter of a mile heading south-easterly from the junction with Grayfleet Bank.

He added that when repairs were completed, plans would be drawn up for a full road reconstruction project.
