Boston Borough Council is suspending fees in its off-street car parks in the run-up to Christmas

Shoppers in Boston will be given free parking in the run up to Christmas, the council has confirmed.

Boston Borough Council will suspend fees in its off-street car parks from 28 to 30 November, and on Saturdays, between 6 and 20 December.

The authority said the scheme aimed to boost footfall to the town over the festive period.

Councillor Mike Gilbert, portfolio holder for town centre at the authority, said: "We want to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible for everyone to come together and celebrate the magic of the season."

On-street parking charges would remain at Pump Square, Market Place, South Square, Station Approach, and Wide Bargate, the council added.

The council said that despite fees being suspended other parking offences, such as not being in a bay, would still be enforced.

Sandeep Ghosh, portfolio holder for finance and economic growth, said: "By backing local businesses, we're not only helping them thrive, but we're also contributing to a stronger, more resilient community for the future."
