Boy arrested after machetes wielded in city centre
Nottinghamshire PoliceA 14-year-old boy has been arrested after a group of youths riding on e-bikes were seen wielding machetes in Nottingham city centre.
Nottinghamshire Police said it was reported four youths on two e-bikes confronted another group of young people, who were on foot, with two of the e-bike riders being in possession of machetes at about 18:15 GMT on Sunday.
It happened outside the Council House, near the site of the city's annual Winter Wonderland event, "in view of families with children".
On Wednesday, the force said a boy had been arrested and was in custody while inquiries to identify further suspects were ongoing.
Assistant Chief Constable Suk Verma described it as "thuggish activity" but believes it was an "isolated incident" between two groups and did not include other members of the public.
He added: "This was a shameful and dangerous incident and we won't stop until those involved are apprehended and put before the courts."
ACC Verma said the force had a team dedicated to dealing with knife crime and that additional patrols had been taking place in Old Market Square.
