An investigation is due to take place into a blaze at a thatched cottage in a Suffolk village that left a 50-year-old man with a minor injury.

Eight fire crews were called to Great Green, south of Bury St Edmunds, at about 15:00 GMT on Monday.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used main jets to tackle the blaze, establish fire breaks and carry out salvage operations," a Suffolk fire service spokesperson said.

The last crew left the scene at 23:30 following heat and hot spot checks.

"The extent of damage to the building is yet to be fully established but a fire inspection is due to take place," the spokesperson added.
