Officer headbutted after drug arrests
GoogleAn officer was headbutted while arresting two men on suspicion of drug offences outside a McDonald's in Newark, police say.
Nottinghamshire Police said the force visited the drive-thru in Lincoln Road on Friday after receiving information that people were inhaling laughing gas in a car outside the branch.
Nitrous oxide cannisters and cannabis were found inside the car - which police suspected to be stolen - and two men, 19 and 21, were arrested.
The force said while the men were being taken into custody, the officer was assaulted.
Both suspects were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, possessing nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, and possessing Class B drugs.
The 19-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of drug-driving and other driving offences, while the 21-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.
Insp Charlotte Ellam said: "The officers involved in this incident deserve great credit for their swift response and the professionalism shown throughout."
