Speed limit reduced from 70mph to 50mph on A-road
GoogleThe speed limit on an A-road has been reduced from 70mph (113km/h) to 50mph (80km/h) to try reducing the number of crashes.
National Highways has implemented the measure on the A1 Barnet Bypass between Borehamwood and South Mimms in Hertfordshire.
It covers both directions on the two-mile section (3.2km) between the Rowley Lane junction in Borehamwood and junction 23 of the M25.
The organisation said over the past five years there had been 55 injury collisions on the three-lane stretch.
National Highways said: "Our aim is to improve road safety for all road users by introducing reduced speed limits, which we anticipate will reduce the frequency and severity of collisions."
