A detailed ground investigation survey is being carried out at Alderney Airport this week.

Guernsey Ports is currently working on designs for the full "rehabilitation" of the current asphalt runway, taxiway and apron.

It said the details from the survey will be help inform the design needed.

The work began on Wednesday is expected to take up to five nights, with works taking place overnight.

There have already been survey completed, but Guernsey Ports said additional detail was needed "for the engineering design and provide precise information on soil strength and load-bearing capacity at specific points along the runway and apron".

The design work will help inform the proposals the Policy & Resources Committee will present to the States of Guernsey.

Local firm Geomarine is undertaking the work, under the direction of project designers RPS.
