'Shocking' dashcam footage shows dangerous driver

Sarwar Mustafa was filmed swerving around oncoming traffic and reaching speeds of up to 100mph

Dashcam footage showing police following a dangerous driver for 18.5 miles (30km) through Dorset has been released.

Sarwar Mustafa was filmed driving from Bere Regis to Ferndown in Dorset on 22 June, swerving around oncoming traffic and reaching speeds of up to 100mph (161km/h).

Dorset Police officers began following the BMW with suspected cloned plates and no insurance after spotting it at about 09:45 BST on the A35 Puddletown bypass.

Mustafa, 27, of no fixed address, was jailed after admitting dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

Mustafa was jailed for 18 months at Bournemouth Crown Court

He was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on 19 December to 18 months in prison and was banned from driving for three years.

Police said officers activated their blue lights and sirens near Bere Regis before the grey BMW 1 series drove towards the A31.

The dashcam footage shows the car running red lights, crossing solid white lines and reversing into a police vehicle.

Police said the incident was brought to a safe conclusion in Autumn Close, Ferndown, where Mustafa was arrested.

PC Mark Palmer, of the Roads Policing Team, said: "It is extremely lucky that he was not involved in a collision and no other road users were harmed by his reckless driving.

"The dashcam footage from this incident is shocking – there is no excuse for driving the way that Mustafa did that day.

"This could have ended in devastating and tragic consequences."
