Murderer who killed man in 'senseless' act jailed

A murderer who killed a man in a "senseless" attack has been jailed.

Craig Howse had denied killing Michael Craig, 31, on 5 March at an address in Heaton, Newcastle, but was found guilty after a three-week trial in September.

Appearing at the city's crown court, the 38-year-old of Bolingbroke Street, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 20 years.

After the sentencing, Det Sgt Steven Gibson, of Northumbria Police, said Howse's actions on the day of the murder were "vicious, mindless and indefensible".

The court heard the victim was found with serious injuries and died a short time later.

A tribute from Mr Craig's family, at the time of Howse's conviction, said: "Michael was a kind, fun loving and caring young man.

"Our lives have been left shattered and broken at the devastating loss. He will always be in our hearts."

Mr Gibson added: "Michael's life was cruelly taken away by Howse's senseless actions that day.

"We welcome the sentence that has been handed to a violent and dangerous offender."
