Plans for new neighbourhood with 1,300 homes

Plans for a new neighbourhood with up to 1,300 homes have been revealed.

Bloor Homes wants to build on land off Foxhall Road, south of Martlesham Heath near Ipswich, and is expected to submit an outline planning application to East Suffolk Council over the winter.

The developer invited people to attend several upcoming public consultations and to share their thoughts online before 28 October.

It said a "significant proportion" of the homes would be affordable to "help support local communities and first-time buyers".

While the plans are for up to 1,300 new homes, Bloor Homes said the precise number would be agreed in the future.

The homes would be constructed in phases over a 10 to 15-year period, and Bloor Homes said it would take measures to improve the existing transport network to support the neighbourhood.

It also plans to build a new community centre, primary school and playing fields.

People on social media have begun sharing thoughts on the plans, which first emerged on Tuesday.

Several people questioned why the homes were being proposed close to the Foxhall Road Recycling Centre.

Others raised concerns for the remains of the former RAF Martlesham Heath runway that sit within the site boundary.

However, Bloor Homes said it would retain 50% of the site as green land.

Bloor Homes said it would review feedback from online and public consultations to help shape the plans.
