Hospices to collect Christmas trees for donations
Shooting Star Children's HospicesSome hospices across the South East of England are running Christmas tree collections to help raise funds.
Between 12-13 January, Shooting Star Children's Hospices will collect real Christmas trees in and around Worplesdon in Surrey and Hampton in London in exchange for a donation.
St Catherine's Hospice is collecting trees between 8-10 January across West Sussex in Crawley, Horsham, and East Grinstead, and in Surrey in Redhill, Reigate, Horley, Lingfield, Dormansland, Oxted, Godstone, and Tandridge.
Hospice in the Weald is also collecting trees in and around Tunbridge Wells in Kent between 10-12 January.
The hospices are working in partnership with JustHelping, a UK charity which aims to encourage communities to raise money for local causes.
Of the money raised through the hospices' collections, 90% will go to the hospice and 10% will go towards other local charities.
In 2025, almost 73,000 trees were collected nationwide and more than £1.5m was raised for UK charities.
Shooting Star collected 775 trees in 2024, which they said saved more than 12.5 tonnes of C02 emissions.
Trees collected will either be recycled into environmentally friendly compost or chipped sustainably.
It is Hospice in the Weald's sixth year taking part in initiative and says it is hoping to collect 2,600 trees, raising more than £57,000.
While St Catherine's says it is hoping to raise more than £17,000 through the suggested £20 donation.
