Motorcyclist dies in crash with van

A motorcyclist has died in a crash with a van on a busy motorway junction.

Durham Police said it happened close to the southbound exit slip road of junction 62 on the A1(M) at Carrville on Monday, at about 16:45 GMT.

The crash involved a white Renault Kangoo van and a motorcycle.

The motorbike rider, a man in his 40s, died and his passenger, a woman in her 20s, was seriously injured, police said. The driver of the van was uninjured.

The road was closed in both directions for several hours but has since reopened.
