Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart says it is great news that cash is "now secure for Hedon".

Hedon is to get a cash hub following news the town's last remaining bank will close next month.

The cash hub will be run by Cash Access UK, a not-for-profit company funded by major high street banks.

Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart said he was "so grateful" to those who had worked together in order to secure an alternative cash facility in the town.

He said: "We've worked on a cross-party basis, everyone basically coming together as a community. It means that the money and the jobs will be sustained in the Hedon area."

Stuart originally campaigned for a banking hub, but this was turned down by Link, which assesses which communities would benefit from one.

Cash hubs provide essential banking services such as access to cash and deposit facilities, but not the face-to-face appointments with representatives from individual banks which are offered by banking hubs.

'Great news'

On its website, Cash Access UK says cash hubs are a "valuable resource for communities that need convenient and reliable banking options".

Stuart said: "It's great news that cash is now secure for Hedon."

"Whenever I've been to Hedon, you can see the two ATM's at Lloyds always seem to have people using them, the bank is busy and businesses tell me that they need cash.

"So, it's vital that businesses have access to cash, that punters have access to cash and the cash hub will allow both people to get money out and the businesses to pay money in."

Stuart said Cash Access UK was seeking to identify an accessible shop or building in the centre of town where the cash hub could be located.

"I've been talking to various shop owners there about making sure that we give them the best possible choice," he said.

"We do know that Lloyds is due to close on 28 January and I'm pushing hard to make sure that there isn't a single day without cash in Hedon."
