About this event

A half dozen of Varése’s finest scores for orchestra round off the BBC Symphony Orchestra’s 360-degree exploration of the maverick composer’s works.

From the still startlingly original Amériques of 1918-21, via the witty Tuning Up (arranged by Varèse pupil Chou Wen-chung) to the late Nocturnal, Varèse’s extraordinary musical voice can be heard in its numerous different moods and styles.

This event is preceded by a reconstruction of Varèse’s piece for tape Poème électronique, in the Barbican Foyers at 6.45pm.
