What are the greatest lines from comedy films?

Comedy poll reactions from Edinburgh

What do Edinburgh Festivals’ comedians, performers and comedy fans think of BBC Culture’s top 100 greatest comedies?

This week, BBC Culture announced the results of its poll to find the 100 greatest comedies ever made, featuring the votes of 253 film critics and experts from 52 countries around the world. But what do comedians – and their fans – think of the list?

BBC Culture headed backstage at the Edinburgh Festivals to find out what the performers, festival-goers and comedians – including Phil Ellis, Clive Anderson and Arthur Smith – had to say about the top 100.

Their favourites included Shaun of the Dead, Young Frankenstein, Planes, Trains and Automobiles and, of course, Monty Python’s Life of Brian, and they couldn’t resist sharing a few of their favourite lines.

“Into the mud, scum queen!” “Roll, roll, roll in the hay”, “He’s not the Messiah, he’s a very naughty boy!” were just a few that they picked.

But what did they miss out? Share your favourite comedy film lines with BBC Culture using the hashtag #greatestcomedies.
