What is a kindness chart?
A kindness chart suggests ways for your child to express kindness.
You can hang it up or stick it on the fridge, it can help start a conversation about kindness and considerate behaviour with your little one.
It can also help your child track their acts of kindness over the course of a few days or weeks, which is a great way to boost self-esteem.
A kindness chart is a great way to encourage kind behaviour and thoughtfulness, so your child can:
develop empathy and active listening
acknowledge other people's feelings
learn to help friends and family.
Where can you practise kindness?
Acts of kindness can be done everywhere! Vida the Vet's kindness chart shows five ideas for when you're at home, at school, or outdoors:
At home
Share toys with a sibling or friend
Tidy your room without being asked
Help set the table, clear plates, bake or cook for friends
Make a “thank you” card for a teacher, carer, or family member
Say what we are grateful for at bedtime
At school
Pack an extra snack to share with a friend
Offer to play with someone new in the playground
Save a seat for a friend at storytime or lunch
Ask a classmate how they are feeling today
Help tidy up the classroom toys or books
Outdoors
Make or fill up a bird feeder
Help with the recycling
Help water plants at home or in the garden
Make a bug hotel or hedgehog shelter
Leave out fresh water for pets or wildlife
