ZAPCHAT: BROOM 3000

Ethel’s got an amazing new broom! I really want to try out some new tricks. I’m sure she won’t mind if I borrow it quickly…

A young witch (Sybil) in Cackle's Academy uniform grinning beside two witches on brooms emojis.
Media caption,

I love this new broom and I can’t wait to take it for a spin!

Media caption,

I tried a triple back loop and broke the broom! She’s going to kill me. Once I borrowed Ethel’s potion kit and accidently smashed a bottle…she tried to turn me into a frog!

Media caption,

There’s no use. I can’t fix it, what am I going to do?

Media caption,

I just tried to hide the broom in the pantry…but I heard Ethel’s voice in the corridor! PHEW, close call!

Media caption,

Everyone in the WHOLE school just heard Ethel’s scream. Poor Millie is going to be toast for something I did. I know what I need to do.

Media caption,

I told Ethel the truth and I apologised to Millie. Ethel was so annoyed. But guess what, the Broom 3000 has a warranty for one hundred years and she can get a new one immediately. But I have to clean Ethel’s room for a whole month!

Have you ever broken something that you've borrowed and what did you do to make up for it? Share your stories!

Zapchat replies: aquapup: Well met Sybil. I once popped my dad's rugby ball and the worst thing was that it was signed. But we put some air in it and patched it up. Sybil: Well met, aquapup! Or should I say aquaPOP? Don’t worry, it sounds like you did the right thing by trying to fix the rugby ball. You did a much better job than I did with Ethel’s broom.
Zapchat replies: dancing-rabbit: Well met Sybil! I once borrowed my friend's book but spilled water on it so a page got ripped out. I blamed it on my dog but then whenever she came to my house she kept avoiding him so I told her the truth. She forgave me but never let me borrow her things again! Sybil: Well met, dancing-rabbit! I once borrowed a spell book from Clarice to help with some potions homework, but I did the same thing and spilled frog juice on the pages. Luckily, Clarice doesn’t mind that the spell for organising your ingredients cupboard is bright green now. She says the book now glows in the dark!
Zapchat replies: rosegoldkittycat: I went to my friends house and she went to get some snacks and while she was out I picked up her favourite toy then she walked back in the room and I dropped it she was quite sad so I let her play whatever she wanted and we fixed it and had loads of fun we didn’t tell her brother or her parents though. Poor you having to clean up Ethel’s room. There is a down side to having siblings at lest you can make up for what you did. Sybil: Well met, rosegoldkittycat. It sounds like you have a very understanding friend. You’re very lucky! Well done for explaining about what happened to your friend. I felt so much better after owning up to Ethel about breaking her broom, telling someone was almost as good as finally putting things right.
Zapchat replies: Safah: I borrowed a fake plant and I accidentally fell and broke its expensive casing. It was my sister’s so I was in the same situation as you. But I made up for it by using my own money to buy her clothes and makeup. It was a terrible day. Sybil: So you know exactly how bad I felt for breaking Ethel’s broom! I felt so guilty - it truly was a terrible day. But I don’t really mind cleaning Ethel’s room. Sometimes she sits doing her homework while I clean. I think she’s a bit lonely, we both miss Esme so much. She wouldn’t admit it to anyone, but I think she likes hanging out with me… even if I am just cleaning!
Zapchat replies: Semmalina: Well met Sybil, I have never broken anything that does not belong to me but if I did I would be so scared to own up. How did you do it? Sybil: Well met, Semmalina. I felt so nervous and jumpy when I was sneaking around behind Ethel’s back. I realised I just couldn’t let her blame Mildred again for something she didn’t do. It wasn’t fair and I think I knew that if I didn’t do the right thing, it would hurt someone else’s feelings. You can do the right thing even if you accidentally make a mistake.
Zapchat replies: U18131708: Well met Sybil, once I broke my mum's vase and I didn't tell her and she blamed my brother but I said it was me she was angry but happy that I had admitted it. Sybil: Well met! Uh-oh, that’s a tricky one! If I broke something of my mum’s, I’d be in big trouble. Think Ethel’s reaction and double it! You did the right thing, even if owning up is hard, it’s for the best and then you can start to fix what you did wrong. Did you fix it with some glue?
Zapchat replies: U18164985: Well met Sybil. Once my cousin let me borrow her special, electric sharpener and I accidentally broke it. To make up for it I bought her a box of her favourite chocolates and a new sharpener before telling her what happened. Sybil: Well met! I’d be so excited to see a sharpener working on its own without having to conjure up a spell! Don’t worry, I’m sure your friend was very touched that you got her a gift to say sorry. Chocolates seem like a brilliant idea - then you can share them with your friend!
Zapchat replies: U18167275: Well met sybil, Oh oh that was a mistake. Why does Ethel always blame it on Mildred? I feel sorry for you. Sometimes I see my little sister with something I like so we are the same! Sybil: Well met! You’re right, Ethel DOES always blame Mildred but I don’t know why. Maybe she’s jealous? It’s hard being at the same school as Ethel. I thought studying with Esme and Ethel would be so much fun, but after Esme left, I know Ethel is finding it hard too. Maybe I should use the Mirror booth to see how Esme is doing and invite Ethel along. That might help things here!
