Robocobra Quartet - Knotweed
They say: "This song takes its title from 'Japanese Knotweed' or 'Fallopia Japonica' - a plant that effectively destroys people's homes from the foundations; it's next to impossible to isolate and remove because of its incredibly deep roots. If that isn't ripe fruit for a thinly-veiled metaphor, I don't know what is!
There's a lot of urgency in this lyrics so I thought it would make sense not to waste time with an intro but rather just have the song 'fall in' with all of the instruments and vocals entering at the first second. I was listening to a lot of Self Defense Family and Sun Kil Moon when writing this one."
We say: “Robocobra Quartet really is an interesting prospect. Lyrics often spoken rather than sung and the sound of dissonant reed over something incredibly tuneful, make this track stand out. Their bio describes them as having backgrounds in punk, jazz and hip-hop. That’s it exactly really. A very interesting sound and one that works live too, although with their background in study at Belfast’s Sonic Arts Research Centre - it was always likely to.”
