An England cap awarded to the footballer Sir Stanley Matthews has been sold for £3,800 at auction.
The cap was awarded to the legendary winger for playing in the Home Internationals against Ireland, Wales and Scotland in the 1954-55 season.
The Stoke City and Blackpool star was 40 when he helped defeat Scotland in a 7-2 victory in April 1955.
The cap was sold at Louis Taylor auctioneers in Stoke-on-Trent to a local buyer.
Born in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, Sir Stanley made his England debut aged 19 against Wales in 1934 and played his last game for his country in 1957, aged 42.
The first footballer to be knighted, he died in 2000 aged 85.
