Violent clashes have broken out in the Thai capital Bangkok, as the military moved in to end a two-month stand-off with anti-government protesters.
Thousands of troops advanced into the heart of the city, some firing live bullets and tear gas.
The so-called red-shirt demonstrators responded by shooting fireworks and hurling stones.
Some protesters stripped down to their underwear to prove to troops that they were unarmed
At least four people have been killed in the latest violence, which escalated after a renegade general who backed the protesters was shot and critically injured on Thursday.
On Friday, a journalist (pictured) for a French TV channel was also shot, and there were reports that two Thai reporters had been hit by gunfire.
A number of demonstrators were arrested, as their leaders vowed not to back down until Prime Minsiter Abhisit Vejjajiva's government was dissolved.
The government has been shutting down supply lines to the protesters' camps.
But the red-shirts had fortified their positions and replenished their supplies over recent weeks in anticipation of military action.
