Drivers warned after heavy rain
Flooding generic
Heavy rain and spray has brought delays on many roads
Drivers have been warned to take care after heavy rain made conditions dangerous on many roads across Wales.

Five flood warnings and 48 flood watches were in force on Monday night, said Environment Agency Wales.

The river Conwy burst its banks at Llanrwst on Monday, and water was pumped out of a house at Carreglefn, Anglesey.

Two people were rescued after a van got stuck in water near Margam, and some trains and ferries were hit.

Police in south Wales said driving conditions on the M4 had been made dangerous by the excess water on the motorway.

An accident on the eastbound carriageway during the Monday morning rush hour caused a four-mile tailback.

A speed restriction was imposed on the M48 old Severn crossing, while an unclassified road in Rudry, Caerphilly, was closed after a large tree blew down across the road around 0400 BST.

Environment Agency Wales has issued flood warnings for four areas: the Conwy Valley and Llanrwst; Dyfi Valley and Machynlleth; the River Vyrnwy from Newbridge to Llansantffraid; and the Rivers Mawddach, Wnion and the town of Dolgellau.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to Kenfig Industrial Estate, near Margam, at 0615 BST after reports a van was stuck in floodwater.

Firefighters managed to move the van and the two people in it out of the floodwater. Nobody was injured.

Street impassable

A section of the A489 Llanidloes Road is closed while a heavy goods vehicle is recovered by a crane.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said no-one was trapped in the vehicle, between Newtown and the A470 at Caersws, but the road would be closed until around 1400 BST.

Rain was expected to return on Monday evening

Dyfed-Powys Police said the A470 between Cemaes Road and Cemaes was totally flooded.

In north Wales, many minor roads were closed and acres of farmland were swamped after overnight downpours.

Irish Ferries cancelled the 0920, 1450, and 2015 BST Fast Ferry sailings between Holyhead and Dublin due to the bad weather.

Flooding also disrupted rail services between Pwllheli and Shrewsbury.

In Barry Island in the Vale of Glamorgan, Plymouth Road had to be closed due to flood water making the street impassable.

South Wales Fire Service were called there just after midnight and were due to return to inspect the area later on.

The Met Office said after more heavy rain on Monday night Tuesday would be brighter, although with some heavy shows and strong and gusty winds.
