Lottery failure for Jubilee plans
Llwyn Isaf
The event will take place at the Llwyn Isaf green
Plans to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee in north Wales have been dealt a blow after a lottery funding bid was turned down.

Voluntary organisations in Wrexham had expected to spend nearly 5,000 on the party to mark Her Majesty's accession to the throne but the plans will now have to be downsized.

The failure to secure the funding has been a set back to our plans but Avow is committed to ensure the event is a tremendous success

Fifty groups including the Scouts and playgroups have already pledged their support to the community initiative at the Llwyn Isaf Green in the town centre on 15 June.

John Gallanders, Chief Officer of Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham (Avow) who submitted the application is determined to carry on with the party.

"The failure to secure the funding has been a set back to our plans but Avow is committed to ensure the event is a tremendous success."

He added: "Our biggest expense was going to be a stage area for some of the activities to be performed on to ensure that everyone will be able to see."

Amateur dramatic groups will re-enact the 50-years of the Queens Jubilee and stall holders have been encouraged to interpret the different eras.

An appeal has been made to local businesses to help raise the extra money needed for the celebrations.

Wrexham County Borough Council have not yet finalised their itinerary of events for the occasion.

However more than 30 applications for street parties have been received and the town has been chosen as one of the 49 UK celebration sites to take part in a baton race.

The baton contains a special message written by Her Majesty The Queen.
