Closure costs 50 jobs in Belfast

Central Group Services pemises

Around 50 jobs have been lost with the closure of an engineering company in east Belfast.

Central Group Services was a provider of mechanical and electrical services such as air conditioning, boiler maintenance and heating installation.

In a statement the company said it had ceased trading with immediate effect, blaming the current economic climate.

The company, which was set up in 1994, also employed 20 people in the Republic.

Ulster Unionist MLA for East Belfast, Sir Reg Empey, said he regretted the closure but understood a number of employees are being offered jobs with another local company.

"The other casualties in this case are the numerous local contractors and self employed workers who are owed money by the Central Services Group. What happens to them? Will there be any money left to pay what they are owed?", he added.
