Red card scheme on Surrey's roads
Red card
The initiative's slogan is "Don't see red on Surrey's roads"
A red and yellow card system is being brought in to try to tackle incidents of aggressive, dangerous and anti-social driving on Surrey's roads.

The Surrey Road Standards initiative could see motorists being arrested and taken to court if they get a red card by breaking the rules more than once.

Offenders could also have their vehicles seized.

The standards cover road behaviour that "angers or provokes other road users or local residents", Surrey Police said.

Abusive language

They classify noise from vehicles, such as loud music or screeching tyres, as anti-social behaviour.

Behaviour, language or hand signals deemed to be threatening, abusive or insulting could also land drivers in trouble.

Handbrake turns in cars and wheelies on motorbikes are outlawed under the road standards.

Cycling on roadside footpaths will be classed as anti-social behaviour, as well as illegally riding mopeds, motorised scooters and mini motorbikes.

Insp Rick Lawn said: "Surrey Road Standards focuses on certain types of anti-social behaviour that could lead to aggressive or inconsiderate driving and potentially serious collisions."
