Older people's day care reviewed
The future of older people's day care is being discussed in East Sussex.

There are eight day centres across the county providing activities ranging from art groups to exercise sessions, and services such as hairdressing.

Views on the service are being sought for a county council report which will be discussed by members next January.

£35m is being ploughed into older people's residential care in East Sussex. The cash is being used to cut hospital admissions and bed-blocking.

A successful bid for the government cash followed a review four years ago by the Audit Commission which focused on bed-blocking in the county.

It is important for us to hear the views of people who may use the services in the future
Cllr Bill Bentley

This new report on day care is being compiled by the council which wants to hear from people who use the centres, their relatives, carers, staff and other professionals working in the housing, health and transport sectors.

Cllr Bill Bentley said it was "to help ensure that we are providing the best service we can.

"It is important for us to hear the views of people who may use the services in the future so we can plan for them."

The report is looking at day centres in Eastbourne, Peacehaven, Lewes, Bexhill, Rye, Seaford, and in Hastings where there are two centres.

A ninth centre in Polegate which offers respite care, day care and long-stay residential care is also being looked at.

Consultation continues until the end of October.
