Royal visit for children's ward
The Princess Royal meets hospital staff
Princess Anne was greeted by staff who work on Peanut Ward
The Princess Royal has followed in her grandmother's footsteps by visiting a children's ward originally opened by the Queen Mother in 1955.

Patients and staff on Peanut Ward, at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, West Sussex, welcomed Princess Anne on its 50th anniversary.

She unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion.

The ward has treated more than 50,000 children and there are plans to develop it into a centre of excellence.

Paediatric charge nurse Scott Howes said Princess Anne's visit recognised the work done by the ward and its aims for the future.
