Work starts on accident-hit road

A major road scheme intended to cut accidents on one of Oxfordshire's most dangerous roads has begun.

The £1.6m plan to upgrade Oxford's Cowley Road will see road safety improvements including three new zebra crossings and a 20mph speed limit.

The accident blackspot has the highest reported accident rate of any street in Oxfordshire - with one crash every two weeks - the county council has said.

It said disruption will be kept to a minimum during the six-month project.

More than 2,000 local people submitted their ideas during the consultation period on the work last year.
