Capital of Culture yacht unveiled
The Liverpool '08 yacht
The yacht will visit 10 cities over 10 months
A yacht promoting Liverpool as European Capital of Culture in 2008 is unveiled on Tuesday.

The Liverpool '08 has been built to take part in Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, which starts and finishes on the city's waterfront next year.

The yacht is one of a 10-strong fleet to be raced by international teams who visit 10 cities over 10 months.

It is hoped the boat, launched in Southampton, will promote the Capital of Culture to new audiences.

The 68ft (21m) yacht is sponsored by Liverpool City Council.

The council said the 2002/3 race - which it hosted - generated more than £10m worth of positive publicity in the UK.

Liverpool will be the starting and finishing port in the 2005/6 and 2007/8 events.
