Immigration officials were still questioning 10 suspected illegal immigrants on Wednesday who were spotted cockle picking on a Lancashire beach.
The Chinese were among 37 arrested in Morecambe after being spotted on Morecambe Bay on Monday.
Fourteen of them have been placed in the care of the local authority and are expected to be deported.
Thirteen will be submitting applications for asylum and two have been given temporary rights to stay in the UK.
The remaining 10 cases were still being assessed on Wednesday.
Angry residents
The group were arrested after residents complained about them cockle picking on the beach.
They were then taken into custody on suspicion of being illegal immigrants.
Cockle picking is not illegal, but residents in Morecambe have become angered by groups of fishermen from across the UK who have been flocking to the Bay.
This follows the closure of fisheries in south Wales and the Solway Firth in Scotland, where cockles were found to be contaminated.
Locals residents have said the public should be allowed to pick cockles, but those doing it for a business should be regulated and licensed.
