Elton on his way to Hull
Sir Elton John
There will be 22,000 tickets for the July event

Sir Elton John is to perform at the new Kingston Communications Stadium in Hull.

He will play in front of 22,000 fans on Saturday 19 July.

It is one of only two concerts the singer is scheduled to perform in the UK this summer.

Tickets will cost between £35 and £70 and an announcement will be made on Wednesday about when they will be going on sale.

Attract everybody

This is he first time the £45m stadium, which is home to Hull RLFC and Hull City FC, will have staged such a large music event.

Adam Pearson, who chairs the stadium management company, told BBC Radio Humberside: ""We wanted to put on an act that would attract everybody.

"It's exactly the sort of event the council had in mind when it built the stadium.

"We're hoping it will be a sell-out and put Hull on the map."
