A pensioner has been awarded the title of Campaigner of the Year at a national awards ceremony in London.
Albert Venison won the accolade at the at the Living Legends Award ceremony which was held at the Dorchester Hotel in London by charity Help the Aged.
The 78-year-old, from Axminster, has been involved in many protests against council tax rises across Devon.
A spokeswoman for Help the Aged said: "He has for years been a champion of pensioner causes."
Last year, Mr Venison, chairman of the Devon Pensioners Action Forum, confronted Pensions Minister Malcolm Wicks on a visit to Exeter.
He led a mock funeral procession of about 70 elderly people protesting at pension levels and council tax, saying taxes were rising higher than pensions and penalising those on low and fixed incomes.
The Campaigner of the Year award is to "recognise individuals or local groups who have successfully campaigned to improve the lives of older people", Help The Aged said.
Celebrities including the prime minister's wife Cherie Blair, entertainer Lionel Blair, comedienne Faith Brown and actress June Whitfield attended the event at the Dorchester on Wednesday.
