Thousands more to enjoy festival
Reading Festival
60,500 fans can now attend on the Saturday and Sunday
Thousands more fans are to be able to attend this year's Reading Festival after organisers won permission to sell more tickets for the weekend event.

Reading Borough Council's licensing chiefs have given promoters Mean Fiddler permission to increase capacity by 5,500 on the Saturday and Sunday.

Capacity for the Friday will remain at 55,000 while the rest of the weekend in August sees a 10% increase.

Organisers applied for a 7,500 increase but councillors had safety concerns.

A spokesman for the council said: "Councillors decided that that was too big an increase and had concerns about crowd safety."

The application for increased capacity had caused concern among some local residents, who claimed the infrastructure around the Richfield Avenue site would not be able to handle it.

Pixies, Foo Fighters and Iron Maiden will headline the festival running on the weekend of 26-28 August.
