Eurostar has apologised to passengers for the "very poor" service they experienced over a weekend of cancellations on the rail service.

Nick Mercer, the company's commercial director, admitted that passengers trapped on trains in the Channel Tunnel had experienced "huge discomfort", but insisted that safety procedures had been followed.

The company is due to conduct more tests on their modified trains on Monday and expect to make an announcement on the resumption of services at 1800 GMT.
