The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh arrived in Jersey to join islanders celebrating 60 years since being freed of Nazi occupation.
Veterans of the occupation, including some of the more than 2000 islanders who were deported to camps by the Germans, had the chance to relay their stories to the Queen.
The Red Arrows made their famously stylish contribution to the celebrations, over St Helier, Jersey.
The Royal couple had earlier attended a Liberation Day service at the Beau Sejour Centre in Guernsey, before unveiling a commemorative stone.
While in Jersey they looked in on a children's Liberation Day party, in time to cut the cake.
Of their five-year occupation the Queen said: "None of us, young or old, should allow ourselves to forget the sacrifices and the suffering of those long years."
