In pictures: Fierce battle in Ingushetia
The Russian army has claimed a major victory during a heavy fighting with a large group of Chechen rebels in the Ingush village of Galashki, near the Chechen border.
Russian attack helicopters pounded the rebel positions
The army said up to 40 rebels were killed during the fierce battle and the rest slipped out eastwards
...and Moscow vowed to hunt down the fleeing rebels and finish them off
The Chechens denied Russian claims about casualties, saying Moscow's army suffered a heavy blow
The fighting forced many terrified local residents to flee their homes
