Kidman's new film Australia opens in the UK on 26 December

Actress Nicole Kidman is to produce and star in The Eighth Wonder, an action adventure based on an archaeological discovery, it has been reported.

The 20th Century Fox production will be written by Simon Kinberg, in whose 2005 action comedy Mr and Mrs Smith Kidman was once scheduled to appear.

Kinberg's other credits include Jumper, X-Men: The Last Stand and upcoming Ben Stiller sequel Night at the Museum 2.

Kidman will next be seen in Australia, an epic from director Baz Luhrmann.

The pair previously collaborated on Luhrmann's 2001 musical Moulin Rouge.

Kidman, who gave birth to a baby daughter in July with husband Keith Urban, was last seen on the big screen last year in The Golden Compass.

She and Kinberg had been looking for a project on which to collaborate, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
