The Sex Pistols will join The Rolling Stones on the Avenue

One hundred celebrities will be immortalised on the Avenue of the Stars, to be unveiled on Sunday in Covent Garden.

The ceremony will form part of an ITV1 tribute presented by Chris Tarrant and Kate Thornton.

Other names to be added to the Avenue include Sir Ian McKellen, comedian Les Dawson and Victoria Wood.

In total, another 32 names have been added to the initial list of 16 already revealed.

Last month it was announced that Sir Laurence Olivier, Nicole Kidman, Ricky Gervais and Ant and Dec would be honoured with a star.

The stars, who can be honoured posthumously, must have been born in the UK or Commonwealth for their names to added to the avenue outside St Paul's, The Actors' Church, in Covent Garden, although Dublin-born Bob Geldof has also won recognition.

More names will be added to the Avenue every year.

Tarrant said: "As more names are revealed, you realise the incredible breadth of British and Commonwealth talent we're honouring."

The full list of names will be revealed on Sunday's TV programme.

Ricky Gervais and John Cleese - who were named in the first list - are to team up for a comedy sketch on the show.

Lively debate

The sketch will be produced by Terry Hughes - the British TV comedy director whose CV includes Friends, The Two Ronnies, The Golden Girls, and Monty Python at the Hollywood Bowl.

It will also feature performances from Charlotte Church, Queen and Jamie Cullum.

Executive producer Michael Hurll said: "We're keeping some of the more contemporary names secret for the live show on Sunday but there's still a lot of talent to honour and only a few spaces left on the Avenue of the Stars.

"Our panel of judges had a tough time deliberating who should be included.

"I know everyone in the country has their own favourites so I'm fully prepared for some lively debate when the full list is revealed!"

BBC chairman Michael Grade, former ITV director of television David Liddiment, writer Kay Mellor and composer Don Black were members of the panel which decided on the stars to be honoured.
