Madonna's UK desertion denied
Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie
Madonna and Ritchie have homes in the UK and the US
Reports that US pop star Madonna has left her UK home to move permanently back to Los Angeles are inaccurate, her spokeswoman has said.

Liz Rosenberg responded to UK newspaper stories that Madonna and her family had given up their British homes because of the winter weather.

She said Madonna, her husband Guy Ritchie and their two children were currently in LA but would return to the UK soon.

Madonna's marriage to British film-maker Ritchie in December 2000 was hailed as the ultimate sign of the pop star's love for all things British.

After they bought a London home and a country mansion Madonna was considered by many as an honorary "Brit".

She has visibly embraced aspects of British culture

Ms Rosenberg said Madonna's love of the UK had not changed, despite tabloid reports to the contrary.

"She'll be back in London in the spring. Madonna has homes in the States, she has homes in England, and she moves between the two," Ms Rosenberg said.

A spokesman for Ritchie said the couple split their time roughly evenly between the UK and the US.

'Good riddance'

But in the UK, the temporary departure raised alarm bells amongst the UK tabloids.

Some reported that Madonna had withdrawn her six-year-old daughter Lourdes from a London school.

They also quoted the singer as telling friends she was fed up with "everything that is English".

However, David Thomas in the Daily Mail responded to this news with: "Good riddance."

"Madonna the Brit... (was) a classic case of the rich, crass, clueless American playing at English tradition," Mr Thomas added.

Since her marriage, Madonna has been seen to embrace many aspects of British culture.

At her country mansion, she has been photographed following rural pursuits, such as shooting.

Back in London, she was chosen to present the annual Turner Prize for contemporary art at Tate Britain.

And last year, she took to London's West End stage to star in the play Up For Grabs.
