"Over the course of the week the Republican platform came together and the party's base rallied.

It is hard not to listen attentively to a man such as John McCain. His speech provided the opportunity to re-introduce himself and demonstrate his true character.

The high point for me was the introduction of Sarah Palin, as I really didn't know much about her before. Senator Lieberman's speech in support of John McCain also came as a pleasant surprise.

I was disappointed with the media attention on Palin's pregnant daughter. Candidates' children should not be part of the public debate unless they are taking an active role in politics. That goes for all parties.

The convention has clearly shown the distinctions between the Republican platform and Democratic policies. For example, over the war in Iraq and the candidates economic policies.

Going into the general election, the choice of running mates will prove important.

Senator McCain's decision was bold as Sarah Palin seems to be such a strong character and a political outsider. I think she will have a greater impact on the campaign than previous vice presidential candidates.

I look forward to the debates and expect that the character of both presidential candidates will be one of the defining issues."
