Supermodel Kate Moss is said to be "very regretful"

The store condemned her apparent actions but said Moss had explained her behaviour and was "very regretful".

It said she would still appear in a forthcoming advertising campaign in which she wears H&M clothes designed by her friend Stella McCartney.

Moss has refused to comment on Daily Mirror photographs apparently showing her taking cocaine.

'Unfortunate'

Moss, 31, who also has deals with Chanel, Burberry and Dior, met H&M bosses to discuss her future in the campaign, which launches on 10 November.

H&M spokeswoman Liv Asarnoj said: "We strongly disapprove of her actions.

"We think that this is very unfortunate, of course, and we have strict policies for engaging models.

"They should be healthy, wholesome and sound, and we are strongly against drug abuse - we have made this clear to Kate Moss.

"After hearing her explanation and her regret we have decided for the time being to continue the campaign."

Party lifestyle

Ms Asarnoj said Moss was "very regretful" at the meeting in New York, where she has been attending Fashion Week.

"She is a true style icon and an extremely professional and experienced model," she added.

"That was why we chose her. But of course, this has affected us as a company. The whole thing is very unfortunate."

Moss is dating Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty and allegedly snorted cocaine as the band recorded tracks for their debut album in west London.

In 1998, the model spent time in the Priory clinic after admitting that her party lifestyle had taken its toll.
