The small Canadian province of Prince Edward Island was put on the literary map by Lucy Maud Montgomery in 1908 when she used it as the setting for her best-selling novel about a feisty red-headed orphan.
Since then, millions of Anne of Green Gables' fans have travelled thousands of miles to see the landscapes that inspired Montgomery.
Rajan Datar reports how some have even moved half way across the world to live where their favourite literary character was based.
