The sultanate of Oman is not an obvious tourist destination. It attracts little more than a million people a year.

In a region over-shadowed by tourism-driven Dubai it offers a warm welcome to those who choose to go.

Karen Bowerman visited the Sultanate to take in its mountains and its deserts with a former rally driving champion and enjoy Bedouin hospitality.
